Traditional golf mats consist of a top surface of artificial grass bonded to foam backing and they are often laid directly onto concrete. This means a number of negative side effects can arise when people continually hit from hard synthetic mats. The shock and vibration from a club hitting a hard mat travels up the shaft, into the wrist, arm, shoulder and back causing a number of problems.
Injuries caused by traditional mats:
- Tendonitis
- Golfer elbow - medial epicondylitis
- Tennis elbow - lateral epicondylitis
- Lower back pain
- Golfers wrist - hamates fractures
- Wrist pain - carpal tunnel syndrome
