Orthopedic Benefits

The playing surface on traditional hard surface mats may look like grass but unfortunately it doesn't play like grass. The jarring effect that occurs when the golf club strikes a hard surface is a major cause of golf injuries. The harder the surface the higher the impact stress on the arms. Paying attention to the construction, quality, and performance of your golf practice mat will make a huge difference in the quality of the practice - and the results - you get.

"I've had 3 PGA pros and a number of sub 5 handicap golfers who have tried the TrueStrike mat and all I've had is comments such as "honestly the best synthetic surface I've hit off" "and "my wrists feel better after 100 balls off that mat than after any round I've played this summer"

Hard Surface Golf Mats - The Health Risks

Don't try to perfect your golf swing on an inferior hard surface golf practice mat, doing so could mean you are subjecting your body to a shock that over time can lead to pain, inflammation, joint troubles and even long term injuries.

Injuries such as:

  • Tendonitis
  • Golfer elbow - medial epicondylitis
  • Tennis elbow - lateral epicondylitis
  • Lower back pain
  • Golfers wrist - hamates fractures
  • Wrist pain - carpal tunnel syndrome

"Since using the TrueStrike mat my students have enjoyed a lot more freedom in striking their iron shots. It's such a better surface to hit from than any other standard range mat; no shudders up the shaft when you've miss hit a shot. For the more experienced player you can get more feel from hitting wedge shots. Altogether the look, feel and feedback you get from a TrueStrike mat is second to none."

Hard Surface Golf Mats - Unrealistic Practice

It's extremely difficult to hit a metal / wood or hybrid club from a hard surface or Astroturf mat. The for this reason is because the flat sole of these clubs makes them even more likely to bounce off a hard surface, resulting in a thin or topped shot. This creates a number of swing problems as the golfer will tend to:

  • Thin or top the ball to avoid the shock and vibration associated with striking a golf mat.
  • Avoid commitment to the strike due to fear of the consequences of hitting hard into a traditional golf mat.
  • Experience unrealistic and unrepresentative ball flight and trajectory.

When hiiting off a TrueStrike these problems can be aliminated, as TrueStrike has a "ruckable" top surface and a gel-filled divot simulating subsurface, that accurately recreates the effects of playing off a natural fairway by allowing the club head to play through the playing surface as it would on turf.

"I can hit lob and sand wedges better than on traditional mats and I like the adjustable tee options better than traditional mats. Short Irons feel great at impact. No pain in the elbows. It feels more like the fairway than any other mat I have hit off."

Joe Clark Sr., PGA Master Professional, Owl's Nest Golf Club, New Hampshire
